Why won’t my gel polish cure?
Here are a few quick tips that can help improve curing results:
Gel curing reminders:
- It’s normal for the base coat and color gel to feel slightly sticky after curing.
- Only the top coat will fully cure and feel dry — this is completely normal.
- A slightly tacky base coat helps the color adhere more firmly.
- Gel polish is designed to stay flexible and glossy — it won’t “air dry” like regular polish.
- Avoid applying layers that are too thick, as this can cause heat spikes or incomplete curing.
- SUNUV nail lamps are designed to cure gel polish only — not regular nail polish. Regular polish should air dry.
For best results:
- Nail prep: File, buff, and clean the nail surface.
- Base coat: Apply a thin layer, cure for 90–120 seconds. Do not wipe.
- Color gel: Apply 2 thin layers, curing each for 90–120 seconds. Do not wipe.
- Top coat: Seal and cure for 90–120 seconds.
Is it normal for the base coat and color gel to be sticky after drying?
Yes, this is completely normal:
- The base coat and color layers remain slightly tacky after curing.
- Only the top coat will be fully cured and smooth to the touch.
- The tackiness helps the next layer bond securely.
- Gel polish maintains flexibility and shine — it doesn’t fully dry like regular polish.
- Avoid applying thick layers to prevent stinging or uneven curing.
Why is my gel polish taking too long to dry?
Curing time can vary between gel polish brands. To improve results:
- Follow the recommended curing time on the product.
- Apply thin, even layers — thick layers take longer to cure.
- Cure each layer under the lamp for 30–60 seconds (or as directed on your polish).
- Ensure your lamp bulbs are working correctly for optimal curing.
How can I avoid stinging or heat spikes during curing?
- Apply thin layers of gel polish — thick layers can cause discomfort when curing.
- Clean up any gel on the skin or cuticles before curing.
- If discomfort occurs, remove your hand from the lamp and allow it to cool for a few seconds before continuing.
Is the SUNUV Gel Polish HEMA-free?
Yes. Our gel polish is HEMA-free, meaning it does not contain Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate (HEMA) — a common monomer that can trigger allergic reactions or skin sensitivities.
While removing HEMA can reduce the risk of irritation, allergic reactions can still occur depending on individual sensitivities.
- Avoid skin contact during application.
- If you experience irritation or discomfort, stop use immediately and consult a medical professional.
How can I remove gel polish without an electric file?
- File the surface: Lightly buff the top coat to break the seal.
- Soak in acetone: - Soak cotton balls in acetone and place one on each nail.
- Wrap with foil and leave for 15–20 minutes.

- Gently push off the gel: Use a cuticle pusher or orange stick. If it doesn’t lift easily, soak a bit longer.
- Buff and moisturize: Smooth the nail surface and apply cuticle oil or hand cream to hydrate.
💡 Tip: Take your time. Rushing removal can damage natural nails.
